The Honest Authors Podcast is a fantastic podcast.
I highly recommend this one for anyone who wants to know more about what it’s like to publish traditionally. As well as just for general confirmation that all writers are worriers and it doesn’t get any better once you get a publishing deal. 😉
Holly Seddon and Gillian McAllister talk about all aspects of their publishing journeys. They debuted at the same time, and that was how they met.
I love how with season two they start out by reading their one star reviews. ⭐️…😢🤭😂
It is hilarious. And also really reassuring.
These two authors are both traditionally published and have by now three and two books published respectively and are both writing their next.
It seems to take each of them about 10-11 months to write a full novel, which is reassuring to me currently as I’m completely in the weeds on my first and feeling like I will never finish (though I’ve currently only been writing for 6 months).
They talk a lot about their writing processes and the process of getting traditionally published and what they do and don’t like about it.
They also talk a lot about their anxiety, what kinds of anxiety or resistance they hit at different points in their process, and the fact that despite believing that each time will be the last, it never fails to rear it’s ugly head again.
Gillian McAllister has one episode where she even talks about how she gets so in depth with her characters that it has her acting quite weird. If her character is really neurotic then she starts to take on those traits, and if a character is angry at their significant other, she finds herself pissed at her boyfriend for seemingly no reason.
They also have other authors on their show who open up about their own struggles, and the wonderful and not so wonderful aspects of being a published author.
I find this podcast to be refreshing and always a good laugh. I’ve sadly binged the backlist (which my phone is trying to change to blacklist) and now have to wait every two weeks for another to come out.
I know this is a really quick review but in short, I highly recommend you listen to this podcast. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Honest Authors Podcast will make you smile and remind you that you’re not alone.
I’m also going to try to post an author journey update this weekend. It’s been a good and fun week, but I’m also really trying to work on my WIP.
