Bloody Mary – A paranormal flash fiction

Prompt: When nightmare becomes reality (200-300 words)

September 13, 2018

I’ve had this dream. It comes and goes, but I’ve had it since I was 10. I never really thought much about it while awake, but I dreaded it when asleep.

The dream starts with me in a hallway, gazing into a mirror, and then I say Bloody Mary three times. I know that sounds dumb, it’s just a kids scary story, but in my dream when I say it, she comes.

I never really knew how old I was in the dream until today. Today is my 33rd birthday and this morning I found myself in my hallway, I looked in the mirror and I said Bloody Mary three times.

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

No idea why I wrote it out like that. Just seemed right. Thankfully nothing happened. It apparently is just a silly fable after all…

I think something is wrong. This morning I woke up covered in blood. My dreams were horrific. I was killing and killing and killing.

On the news this morning there was a story about a whole building of people who were massacred in their sleep. They can’t figure out how anyone did it. All the doors and windows were locked from the inside and the cameras caught nothing.

It’s been a week since I wrote the entry about my dream in my electronic journal. It’s somehow all over the internet. My journal is not public. How did it get out? Weird things are happening everywhere. Massacres with no perpetrator.

What if we got it wrong, and it was reading her name that triggers her ghost? How many have read it?

Oh god, what have I done?
